Dear Parents,

I hope that you and your families had a joyful and restful holiday weekend.  It is hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks left of this semester.  The students have been working hard on their French Revolution Group Projects.  I believe they have all been learning the importance of teamwork and ownership.  During this next week, the students should be putting the finishing touches on their projects for presentation on Thursday, December 3rd.  On Friday, they will have an activity as an introduction for chapter 7, the Industrial Revolution.

During the week of December 7th, we will continue working on chapter 7 in hopes of having one last assessment activity before we review for the final exam.  The study guide for the final exam is on my website and I will be letting the students know that they should begin at least looking over it.  If they have kept all of their study guides throughout the semester, then filling out the study guide for the final should be pretty easy.
We will review for the final on December 15th and 16th.  The final exam will be taken on December 17th for my odd number classes and on December 18th for my even number classes.

During this holiday, I took the time, as many people do, to reflect on what I am thankful for.  I am very thankful for the opportunity I have been given to teach our students.  They may not realize it, but I am very proud of them.  I am sure that they will continue to meet the challenges during the rest of this year.  I look forward to watching that process.

Thank you for all the support that you continue to give as we push through another school year.  As always, if you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to let me know.  Have a great week.

Welcome to World Civilizations

Dear Parents,

I hope that you all have had a fun and restful summer.  I wanted to take a moment to say hello.  I am very excited to get started on a new year and I hope you are as well.  Looking over my class rosters over the past few days, I noted most of my incoming students did not have me for U.S. History last year so I am excited to see some new faces. For you reading enjoyment, I am attaching my updated syllabus for this year.  Please note that this syllabus is for World Civ and Honors World Civ.  Most of the information applies to both classes.  The only exception is the grading percentages.

One of the highlights that I wanted to bring to your attention is the class twitter page (@DavisWorldCiv).  I encourage all parents as well as students to follow.  I will use this page for class related messages, reminders, updates, and information.  This will not be my only means of communicating with you, but it will be one of my main sources of getting class-wide information to you as soon as possible.  If you are not on Twitter, the same information is accessible via my teacher page.

You are receiving this email to the email address given to me by the school.  If you would prefer to receive future emails with another email address or an additional email address, please let me know.

In keeping with 21st Century Skills, most of our students’ assignments will be completed and submitted online via my homework email.  That email address is on the first page of my attached syllabus.  I will go over all of this information with the students in class and we will have a computer lab day this Friday to make sure all students are on the same page.  In the event there are some students that do not have internet access at home, all students have assigned school email addresses/internet access at school and the students will be given sufficient time to complete their work.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me.  Please respond to this email so that I know you received it.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at Parent Night, Tuesday, August 25th
